The “IAȘI” Letters – Urban Project with NESS

The “IAȘI” dimensional letters are an urban-signage installation produced by MAGNIUS in collaboration with NESS Digital Engineering Iași. Located in the Palas area, the project was conceived to connect directly with the public and highlight the positive contribution of the city’s IT community.

Initially planned as a temporary intervention, the installation evolved into a permanent landmark. The technical solution proposed by MAGNIUS made it possible to retain the structure in the urban space and adapt it to different moments and events.

A visual landmark built around the city’s name

The scale of the letters and their location in a busy public area transform the city’s name into an object that residents and visitors can engage with visually. The installation acts not only as a sign but also as a photographic backdrop and meeting point.

For its 1 December inauguration, the letters were illuminated in the colours of the Romanian flag. The lighting system therefore became a communication tool that could respond to the occasion.

An adaptable project for events and themed interventions

The structure was developed to accommodate changes without compromising stability or the overall appearance. The installation later received natural-plant decoration for 1 March and graphic elements created by children for 1 June, alongside other themed interventions.

This flexibility extends the project’s relevance: the same technical base can support seasonal messages and scenography while preserving the recognisable “IAȘI” letterforms.

Metal structure, finishing and integrated lighting

Production included the metal structure, finishing and painting, integration of the lighting system, transport and on-site installation. The components had to be coordinated so that the assembly remained stable, legible and ready for later adaptations.

The work reflects MAGNIUS experience in special structures and brand activations and illuminated dimensional letters and signs.

Production and installation in approximately ten days

The project was delivered against the clock, in approximately ten days. Structure, finishing, lighting, transport and installation were sequenced so the inauguration deadline could be met.

Installation took place at night, reducing the impact of the work in the public area and allowing the team to complete the project within the agreed programme.

From temporary installation to permanent feature

Turning the initial concept into a permanent feature required a solution that combined durability with the ability to accept future interventions. The structure had to support decoration and updates without rebuilding the entire assembly for every change.

The result is a recognisable urban project that attracts residents and tourists and shows how technical production can support an idea centred on community.
